The Empty Chair

Two cups
on the table.

I still pour
one for you.

Then I see
the empty chair

and remember
what is true.

Sometimes
I start talking,

before I
catch myself.

Your old book
is still waiting

where you left it
on the shelf.

The empty chair
still knows your name.

Nothing moves,
but nothing feels the same.

I don't ask
where you are tonight.

I just leave
one small light.

The empty chair
still knows your name.

Nothing moves,
but nothing feels the same.

I don't ask
where you are tonight.

I just leave
one small light.
