SONGLINES

Ancient footsteps on the land
Songlines drawn across the sand
Painted stories on the stone
Dreaming tells them where they’re from

First people of Australia
Hear the yidaki call
Sixty thousand years
And their culture still lives on
Clapsticks keep the rhythm
Under southern skies
Aboriginal Australia
The ancient song survives

No compass and no written guide
Songs would lead them far and wide
Land and story, voice and flame
Every place would hold a name

First people of Australia
Hear the yidaki call
Sixty thousand years
And their culture still lives on
Clapsticks keep the rhythm
Under southern skies
Aboriginal Australia
The ancient song survives

Hear the rhythm, hear the sound
Ancient stories all around
From the elders to the young
Still remembered, still being sung
