No Return Address

Every birthday,
one card arrives.
Different city.
Same handwriting.

One line tells me
what tomorrow brings.

No return address.
No name I know.
Just one day ahead
everywhere I go.
Every word came true.
Every single time.
So why does this one
feel different tonight?

A missed train.
An old friend.
A lost wallet
found again.

Small things.
Until tonight.

No return address.
No name I know.
Just one day ahead
everywhere I go.
Every word came true.
Every single time.
But this year there are
only five words inside.

I read them once.
Then twice.

"Don't go home tomorrow."
