Ijen Blue Fire

East Java.
After dark.
Sulfur smoke.
A sudden spark.

Down at Ijen.
Deep in night.
Black stone opens.
Into blue light.

Blue fire.
Across the stone.
Burning where
the night has grown.

Ijen glowing.
Before the dawn.
Electric blue.
Then it is gone.

Sulfur yellow.
Midnight air.
Blue flames moving
everywhere.

No city lights.
No morning sky.
Only Ijen
burning blue tonight.

Blue fire.
Across the stone.
Ijen shining
all alone.

Before the sunlight
changes the view,
Java wakes
under burning blue.
